North Atlantic Oscillation

This month’s featured artist is North Atlantic Oscillation, a post-progressive trio from Edinburgh, Scotland. They are comprised of Sam Healy (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Ben Martin (drums, programming) and Chris Howard (bass, bass synth, backing vocals). Their music has been described as a modern take on progressive and psychedelic rock, with heavy drums and loud guitars mixed with dreamy synths and irregular electronic sound effects. Fans of Porcupine Tree’s lighter progressive albums Stupid Dream and Lightbulb Sun will most likely find a lot to like about North Atlantic Oscillation.

The band released their debut album Grappling Hooks in 2010, which received massive critical acclaim including being named as Zane Lowe’s Album of the Week on his BBC Radio 1 show. The band are back this year with Fog Electric, their brand new album. It’s due to be released on April 30th on Kscope, and you can hear a montage of the record as well a brand new song ‘Savage With Barometer’ below. The band also are playing a gig in London to celebrate the release of the album, alongside Kscope label mate Mothlite.

0

Unfortunately, we are going to have to wait even longer for No-Man’s highly anticipated live CD/DVD ‘Love and Endings’. It’s been delayed until March 26th due to manufacturing issues with the  vinyl edition, which was limited to 300 copies and sold out within 48 hours. However, Burning Shed have made available to pre-order a ‘Love and Endings’ t-shirt, to coincide with the release of the CD/DVD and Vinyl editions of the album.

Steven Wilson updated his Facebook page about the delay:

Due to manufacturing issues the release/shipping date for No-Man's Love And Endings live CD/DVD/2LP has been delayed until 26th March. Note that pre-orders only will include an extra 4 page booklet of lyrics and song notes by Tim Bowness. There is also a special Love And Endings t-shirt to accompany the release - Steven Wilson

Gavin Harrison talks about the future of Porcupine Tree

1

Gavin Harrison was recently interviewed on HitChannel.com, and when asked about the possibility of a new Porcupine Tree album, he responded with this:

Do you think a new Porcupine Tree album will happen soon?

I don’t think it will happen soon. I think it would happen..

After Steven’s third solo album?

Possibly, possibly. I think we’ re going to start writing this year. We can’t write an album in like, two weeks. It would be stupid because we are going to promote the album for like two years. We want to make an album that is really good, with really good songs. It might take 3 months, it might take 6 months, it might take 9 months. I don’t know how long one of those things could go. It could go quick, it would go slow, it could be both. I’m sure we will start writing this year. I imagine it probably will be released next year.

This is very interesting, because Gavin seems sure that the band will indeed start writing the record this year, with an aim to release it at some point in 2013. This would fit in with the news that Steven Wilson will release his third solo album in the Spring of next year. Steven Wilson will be recording his third solo album after the conclusion 2nd leg of the Grace for Drowning tour, which is ending on May 15th at the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire in London.

1

Colin Edwin’s second studio album, ‘PVZ’ is out now! It’s available on two different formats – digital download and USB. Colin explained the reasoning behind distributing the album on USB over on his blog. You can buy the album from Burning Shed here. You can see pictures of the USB packaging and listen to the album sampler for ‘PVZ’ below.

"It was my original intention to release "PVZ" as a download only, however, I decided to have a limited edition physical version available for those who, like me, prefer to have something they can touch. The USB key is limited to 300 numbered copies, containing both FLAC and mp3 versions of the album, as well as printable artwork (designed by Carl Glover) for those who might like to create their own CD. The first 100 or so orders of the USB keys will come with 4 bonus tracks in mp3 format" - Colin Edwin
