Canadian rock trio Rush join Porcupine Tree on Roadrunner Records!
44Progressive rock legends Rush announced today that they have officially signed with Roadrunner Records, Porcupine Tree’s current record label! Porcupine Tree and Rush have collaborated together in the past, with Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson providing a guitar solo on the band’s epic 17 minute ‘Anethestize’ from 2007′s Fear of a Blank Planet. Rush are due to release their next studio album ‘Clockwork Angels‘ next year on Roadrunner Records. The album was first announced back in 2010, when Rush released two new songs from the album, as part of the ‘Caravan’ single. Production on the album was supposed to continue after the release of the single, but Rush decided to start the year long ‘Time Machine Tour’ in support of the single, which halted the band’s progress on the album.

Rush are now back in the studio writing and recording new songs for the record, for an anticipated summer 2012 release. I’d say that around this time next year, we are going to have two great new albums upon us. Those being Porcupine Tree’s highly anticipated eleventh studio album that Steven Wilson himself announced last month, and Rush’s new album, ‘Clockwork Angels’.
If you happen to be a fan of Rush’s music, you might want to check out this fansite for the band, it keeps you up to date with the news, and the about of content on there is simply astounding. Go check it out!
Steven Wilson’s new video for ‘Remainder the Black Dog’
37Update 01/09/11 – The video has been posted on YouTube by user tellepark. It’s a good upload, with full 720p quality! Enjoy!
The music videos from Steven Wilson and Lasse Hoile just don’t stop coming! Thanks to Guitar World, we have the full length, nine minute music video for Steven Wilson’s ‘Remainder the Black Dog’ taken from his fast approaching solo album ‘Grace for Drowning’. Currently, the video is over on Guitar World’s website, but it’s not available for embedding, so you will have to go and check out the article on their site in order to watch the video. The video features Lasse Hoile’s trademark colour correction techniques, to create a simply beautiful video that doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense. But that’s Lasse Hoile for you, right? I’ve got some screenshots from the video below in the gallery, so you might want to check some of those out!
StarsDie.com – Weekly Update – 27/08/11
49Hello and welcome to the return of the StarsDie.com Weekly Update! I abandoned this format of weekly news updates a while ago due to the lack of consistent news, but due to the fact that Steven Wilson’s new album is out very soon, I thought that I might as well bring the format back because there will be lots to talk about in the weeks ahead!
Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve been treated to two music videos from ‘Grace for Drowning’, with both tracks being taken from the album’s second disk. The video for ‘Track One’ was posted online by Lasse Hoile over on his YouTube channel on August 15th, after an exclusive reveal the week before that on Sound & Vision. The video for ‘Index’ which was originally teased way back in February by Steven on his Facebook page, was exclusively posted on Yahoo Music, before it eventually found it’s way over to YouTube, in full 720p quality.
Burning Shed is reporting that the deluxe edition of Steven Wilson’s upcoming solo album is completely sold out, and that they can no longer take orders over on the Burning Shed Online Store. However, they have stated that there is a good chance that they will be able to obtain a few more copies within the next 2-3 weeks, so anyone who hasn’t had the opportunity to pre-order one might still have a chance. If you are one of the few, you should follow Burning Shed for instant updates over on either Facebook or Twitter. I ordered my copy of the deluxe edition as soon as it was available to pre-order, and there will be a video on the site detailing what is inside the package on the day of release.

The lyrics to 'Deform to Form a Star' are on the front of the book!
That is all for this week! I personally cannot wait to get my hands on the deluxe edition. Also, I may add that today in fact marks one month away from the worldwide release of ‘Grace for Drowning’! It’s out in the UK & Europe on September 26th, whilst the other territories get the album a day later on the 27th. StarsDie.com will have a review and several other pieces of content regarding the album throughout the week of it’s release, so be sure to check the site in that week for that.
You never know, I might even release the first episode of the StarsDie.com podcast that week…
Zoetermeer + Poznañ dates added to SW’s ‘Grace for Drowning’ Tour!
46Two additional dates have been added to Steven Wilson’s upcoming solo tour in support of his second studio album, ‘Grace for Drowning’. Firstly, a tour warm-up show in Poznañ on the 20th October at Klub Eskulap, and a second date in Zoetermeer, Holland, at the Boerderij, added due to the show in Amsterdam at the Paradiso almost selling out. Steven Wilson confirmed via his Facebook page that these two dates will be the last dates added to the tour.
I’ve included an extract below of his statement:
This will almost certainly be the last show added to the existing tour, so apologies if I’m not coming to your town or country. Why isn’t the tour 6 months long and visiting every city in Europe, the west coast of the USA, Mexico, South America, Australia, etc…?
Simple answer – I can’t afford it, at least not this time. While the show is costing significantly more to stage that a Porcupine Tree show, of course it doesn’t attract the same number of people or generate anywhere near the same kind of income.
Still, tickets are selling well, and some shows look like selling out, and that’s encouraging, so maybe this won’t be the first and last time I can do this - Steven Wilson
One can wonder, if the shows are costing significantly more to stage than your average Porcupine Tree show, surely we are in for something quite special and unique? It looks like we will have to wait until October to find out what Steven’s got up his sleeve.
Tickets are on sale for the show in Poznañ at Klub Eskulap on Monday.
You can already buy tickets for the Zoetermeer show at the Boerderij from Ticketmaster, here.
Steven Wilson’s Music Video for ‘Index’
55Update 01/09/11 – I’ve updated the video below with a higher quality version straight from Lasse Hoile’s YouTube channel. Enjoy!
Thanks to Yahoo Music, we have the second official music video from Steven Wilson’s upcoming second solo album ‘Grace for Drowning’! This one is a bit creepy.
Steven Wilson posted an update on Facebook regarding the video, and I’ve provided an extract below.
“Index” was directed by Lasse Hoile. Guest musicians on the song are Pat Mastelotto on drums, and the London Session Orchestra as orchestrated by Dave Stewart. Hope you like it! – SW
