Steven Wilson talks about Storm Corrosion in new interview series
0FaceCulture have released a brand new six part interview series with Steven Wilson. Throughout the six parts, Steven discusses Storm Corrosion, record collections, ELO, dark music, artistic decline, becoming predictable, fear of repetition, organic sounds, spontaneous music and more! I’ve embedded all six parts below – if you are viewing this article from the homepage, you’ll need to hit the ‘more’ button beneath the first part to see the rest of the clips.

Steven Wilson talks Storm Corrosion reviews, classic album remixes
0Steven Wilson has just updated his Facebook page with some more information regarding his future plans. He’s now going to focus on mixing the live performance filmed in Mexico City last month whilst Lasse Hoile handles editing. The DVD/Blu-ray of the tour will be released in September on Kscope. He’s also still writing the currently untitled ‘SW band record’, which is confirmed to feature ‘Luminol’ a track debuted on the 2012 tour. Steven also has been remixing the classic Emerson, Lake & Palmer records, which is what he’s referring to in the update below. Those are expected to be released late this year. Another point to mention is that he’s confirmed that there won’t be any Storm Corrosion live performances, which proves that the tour rumours were indeed false.
And home again…… Firstly, thanks for all the positive feedback regarding the Storm Corrosion album which was finally released during the last 2 weeks while I was away on tour, and in the wake of the news of label Roadrunner’s demise. I expected at best a 50/50 split within the two fanbases on what is after all a pretty uncompromising and un-rock album, but the reaction once again tells me that music fans are much more open minded than the mainstream music industry gives them credit for (-: It’s also charted respectably well in the US, UK and Germany so far, and the reviews have been great (5/5 in UK tabloid The Sun?? You have just entered the Twilight Zone…) But just to clarify, because I’ve been asked this a lot during the recent tour, there won’t be any Storm Corrosion live performances.
Next up for me is to mix the live performance we filmed in Mexico City in April while Lasse edits the footage, and to finish writing the SW band record (plus some more classic album remixing, more news on that soon…)

StarsDie.com Album Comparison – Blackfield I & II
0
Blackfield has, ostensibly, been about the writing partnership of Steven Wilson and Aviv Geffen since the project first came to fruition in 2004. The results of that first collaboration, Blackfield I, established the more straightforward pop aesthetic of the group, and successful singles like “Blackfield” and “Hello” revealed SW’s primary intent with the project was to excise some of his musical ideas considered too poppy or otherwise unfit for use in Porcupine Tree. Three years later, Blackfield II presented another 10 songs following much of the same aesthetic, reinforcing the pair’s aptitude for succinct, catchy rock music. Are these two albums really so similar, however? The aim of this new article series is to examine two albums and see where such comparisons and contrasts exist.

Storm Corrosion Fan Q&A Part VII: Why It Took So Long
0Here’s the seventh part of the ongoing Storm Corrosion Fan Q&A video series by Roadrunner Records. In this part, Steven and Mikael discuss why it took so long for them to release a collaboration album, seeing as they have known each other for over ten years. If you missed any of the previous parts of this Q&A, you can find them on our Storm Corrosion news page.
Steven Wilson’s ‘Grace for Drowning Tour’ is coming to an end tomorrow!
0Steven Wilson’s hugely successful ‘Grace for Drowning Tour‘ will be coming to an end tomorrow night, where Steven will return to his home turf to perform the final show at the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire in London. The tour has been on the road since late 2011, and it’s spanned two different legs, which have covered North & South America and Europe. Production values on Steven Wilson’s tour have eclipsed that of Porcupine Tree’s live shows – quadrophonic sound mixed with striking visuals by Lasse Hoile have earned the show strong, positive reviews from many media publications across the world.
The tour will be documented on an upcoming DVD/Blu-ray release which will be released in September/October of this year. The concert was filmed in Mexico City last month, and it’s expected that the audio will be mixed into 5.1 surround for the release, with the Blu-ray receiving both high definition video & audio. It’s possible that there will be a deluxe edition, similar to what was offered with Porcupine Tree’s most recent live DVD/Blu-ray ‘Anesthetize’.
So, what’s next musically for Steven? His currently untitled third solo album will be released in Spring 2013 on Kscope. ‘Luminol’ a brand new 12-minute piece from the album has been played on every night of this year’s tour, and it’s expected that this track will be featured on the upcoming album. Steven has also been working with Aviv Geffen on the fourth Blackfield record, which currently has no set release date, but it will be released later on this year.
So, to wrap up this update post of sorts – what a year 2012 has been so far! Obviously Steven’s tour and the release of Storm Corrosion last week have been the highlights – but we’ve still got so much more to look forward to. As always, we’ll keep you posted on the latest news. Perhaps we’ll get an update from Porcupine Tree before the year comes to a close? Who knows, but exciting stuff is most certainly on the horizon.

Steven Wilson Tour Update #2
0Steven Wilson updated his Facebook page last night with another tour update. His Grace for Drowning tour is coming to an end next week in London, and he and the band have decided to add Insurgentes to the setlist for the last few dates. Steven’s third solo record will be released next year, and he’s been debuting ‘Luminol’ a new 12-minute piece from that record on tour. A DVD/Blu-ray of the tour, recorded in Mexico last month, will be released in September on Kscope. We’ll be at Steven’s show in London next week – so if you are going, let us know!
Folks, sorry for the complete lack of updates from the road recently, but my laptop died about 2 weeks ago, so here I am using a borrowed iPad to at least check in. We have one more week of the current tour, and despite all of us having been sick over the last week or so, every minute we’ve been on stage playing for you has continued to be an incredible experience. The latest development has been the addition of the title track of Insurgentes to the show, which we thought would be just a one off for the Paris audience, but which went so well we are now playing it at every show (so far).
Anyway, more news to come, for now thanks again for all the amazing feedback and see some of you at the final 6 shows. And hope you are enjoying the Storm Corrosion album. Best! S
