In a recent interview with the Chilean Porcupine Tree fansite PTChile.com, Steven Wilson talked briefly about the themes of his upcoming third solo album, which will be released in the Spring of 2013. It’s interesting that this concept is quite similar to that of Gazpacho‘s ‘March of Ghosts‘ which was released earlier this year on Steven’s current record label Kscope. It’s important to note that Steven still has a lot of interest in offering his third solo album as a hardcover deluxe edition, similar to the deluxe edition treatment that both Grace for Drowning and Insurgentes received when they were released.

This album will be a collection of ghost stories made into music. What I really want to do is as a hardcover book where are the stories, pictures and drawings relate to the songs, which are all about ghosts, but ghosts in a classical sense. When I say this I mean they are traditional ghosts, old, spirits and hauntings, not the Hollywood type ghost out of a closet that shouts “Boo” no, on the contrary, traditional ghost stories are almost Victorian – SW

When asked about any films that inspired his choice to write an album about ghost stories, Steven responded with this:

Well, what immediately comes to mind is “The Others” which is a very popular movie with Nicole Kidman, is a classic example film of the old ghosts, but there are examples much unknown, there is a movie called “Whistle and I’ll Come to You ” from the 60′s, with which I was absolutely obsessed and I saw again and again, so after that I wanted to do as a series of songs, very long pieces each about a different ghost in a different situation. The other source of inspiration is this band, because I’ve never had a band in mind when writing solo material to date. The first album was written for whoever he might be playing with me, the second album was written in the same way but this album has been written specifically for these musicians – SW

I deemed this photo appropriate to this news article, because SW looks to be sat in what appears to be a haunted house…
